Summary

This hoard was probably discovered off the coasts of Sicily in the late 1950s. It comprised at least 174 coins, including 35 gold multiples and 139 aurei, spanning the period from AD 276/277 to 308. The content shows that the treasure was amassed through regular withdrawal of currency in circulation but also, more importantly, through successive donativa.
