Almost nothing is known about the provenance of the hoard, only that it was acquired by A. Egger and that it comes from the general vicinity of Skopje. By the statement of the seller/finder of the hoard it was supposedly sold in its entirety.

The literature provides description for 1019 coins while it states that it does for 1022. One coin of Caracalla and two of Septimius Severus are unaccounted for. It is unknown where the mistake is.
