Summary

The hoard comprised a copper-alloy vessel containing approximately 2,000 coins from Elagabalus to Postumus with a tpq of AD 263. Only 701 coins were catalogued. Note that for Gallienus, Valerian II, Saloninus, Salonina and Postumus, mints are given according to RIC (Lyon), not Elmer (Cologne).

Of the nearly 2000 coins found in the hoard, only 701 were deposited in the Cabinet de Médailles. The rest were distributed among the finders of the hoard.

Comment

There are a few inconsistencies between the catalogue and the summary table p. 154: for Gordian III, 85 coins of Rome are mentioned, but RIC numbers are given for 86 specimens (which has been followed here); for Postumus, 245 are given in the table for Cologne, but only 231 are listed in the catalogue (we have listed 245 here). References are given according to RIC, Elmer (for Cologne) and Alfödi, Berytus 4 (1937).
