Summary

Twenty six coins (aurei and their imitations) were accessioned from 11 persons under treasure trove legislation. They constituted a part of the hoard which contained also jewellery and was found in the land owned by private individuals. Some of the imitations are mould-linked.

These coins were found from the land of Manchala Pulla Reddy of the same village in S.No.771. Recently Darley (2019) re-examined ‘a particular selection of coins deposited in the Hyderabad Museum collection in 1984 and found in Daramvaripalem’ (Darley 2019: 74). According to her around half of them are slashed, and she does not mention any imitation.

Site comment

Most probably this is an archaeological site since the Tahsildar of the Darsi in Prakasam district reported about the scattered brick walls, bones, and pottery shreds that can be observed near the place. Also, the survey conducted by the Registering Officer of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhara Pradesh confirmed the presence of bricks, animal bones, and Early Historic pottery.
