Vessel
Comment
The vessel was found in two pieces as it had been damaged by the excavating machinery. The vessel was constructed from thin sheets of copper-alloy. It was bucket-shaped and possessed a lid with handle. The terminals of the handle were in the shape of stylised birds. The sides of the bucket bulged making the maximum diameter of the vessel between 23cm and 26cm. The bucket measures 25cm in height. The diameter of the base of bucket was 18.3cm. The height of the lid was 3.3cm and the diameter was 20.3cm. It appears that the lid was originally sealed in place with a copper-alloy fitting (but not a lock) which possessed L-shaped recesses. Inside the vessel, the coins appear to have been stored in individual leather bags.
